Make a Difference - Become a Foster Parent
When you gaze into baby’s eyes, you know that this little life will be
looking to you for love and guidance and indeed this is no trivial matter.
Bringing up a kid in accordance with Islam is a responsibility that Allah (swt)
has placed squarely on parents' shoulders and they will be accountable for it.
Unfortunately there is a potential
threat in our Muslim community that if any Muslim kid fallen into the trap
of Child Protection Services (CPS, US law) due to Muslim family's domestic
violence, divorce, child abuse, a small injury to kid due to parents
negligence, sexual harassments then it is very UNLIKELY that the CPS would give
the kid to Muslim foster parents, YES, the kid might go to non-Muslim family
and we might lose them permanently. And we had experienced lot of cases falling
into this category, where Muslim parents pleaded CPS to hand over their kid to
Muslim family, but in vain, the reason being we hardly find
Muslim Foster Parents in our Metroplex. It is very difficult for any believer
to see an innocent infant/kid/teen being handed over to Non-Muslim family who
feed/teach/inject un-Islamic, unethical, immoral attitudes who will Na'udubillah
become a non believer.
Imagine when you bring the same kid as Muslim foster Parent and sits
with the child and talks about Allah and His glorious attributes, His creation,
and how we all fit into it, morals, manners and etiquette, devotion and prayer,
decent living, call to religion, and sense of devotion, how to greet each
other, speaking, prayer, business conduct, and dress, is about the Haqq, the
ultimate reality. He or she is feeding his fitrah and building into kid a
correct world view and that world view will be part of the kid as long as he
lives."
If we observe carefully the depth of above paragraph, we wonder how much
it pays back for a parent to bring up an obedient slave of Allah swt. For this
great effort DFW Muslim community seeking MUSLIM FOSTER PARENTS to come forward
and register and we all pray for them to make this a key to Jannah in sha Allah
and we expect next call from Child Protection Services to hand over a Muslim
kid will go to Muslim family not to a non-Muslim family.
Frequently Asked Question on FOSTER PARENTS
Who can become a foster parent?
Almost anybody! You do not have
to be married. Just an adult!
Do I
have to take children once I am registered?
No! It is entirely up to
you. We are trying to build a
relationship with the Child protective services where whenever they find out of
a Muslim child they would contact us.
Thus we would be at that point able to contact registered individuals in
our community to fulfill the need. In
either case the choice is always yours.
Didn't
we do this one time before?
Yes! Unfortunately it takes a
long time for CPS to run background checks to screen people out. As we waited for the results the lady that we
were dealing with left CPS and unfortunately the documents got lost and we were
not able to proceed. This issue is
simply too important to give up on.
InshaALlah this time around we'll try to keep a better tap on this so
that nothing like this happens. We ask
for your duas.
How many
families do we need to be foster parents?
As many as possible! There are several reasons for this. First one (as mentioned above) should be
really important to you i.e. if your own blood brother's infant or child is
taken away then he probably would want him/her with you more than anyone else. Second, not everyone that trys to register
would be able to as some would be screened out.
Third, when the time comes to actually place a child we expect people to
back off for different reasons. By
getting more individuals/families to register we simply
increase our chances of placing a Muslim child with a muslim family/individual
