Islamic Center of Irving - New Building

We were aware as early as in the 80’s that we would not have enough space to accommodate the ever increasing number of Muslims in Irving. The solution to the problem was to build a Masjid capable of accommodating the expected growth. In1998 by Allah’s will and blessings we were able to purchase an eleven acre parcel of strategically located undeveloped land only a few miles from DFW International Airport and close to both Ft. Worth and Dallas costing $300,000. By the will of Allah and the help of the Muslim Community in Irving, Dallas, North Texas, and throughout the country we were able to make this purchase with cash.

Alhamdullilah; on Saturday January 1st, 1999, the ground braking took place. On Jan 18th, 1999, SYB Construction Inc. began the first phase of the project, which included site development, grading, instillation of utilities, and the construction of a driveway. This phase of construction was completed in June of 1999 at a cost of nearly $350,000.

On November 2nd, 2000 the contract for the construction of the shell and parking lot was signed with R.C. Small & Company. The cost for this phase of the project was 2.4 million dollars. This included the exterior structure, stucco and paint, windows, doors, interior walls, beautiful green dome, and the 511 space parking lot.

After two more years of hard work and fundraising we were able to move forward to complete our Masjid/School facility. The next phase of the construction project, interior finish out began on August 20th, 2003, with the signing of the contract with J.R. Thompson Inc. at a cost of 2.3 million dollars. This was an exciting moment for us, since we knew that we were only months away from worshipping Allah in a Masjid designed for just that purpose after years in rented facilities. The simple solution to providing adequate prayer space had grown to almost fulfilling the needs of the entire Muslim community with a large Islamic Center.

Alhamdullilah! on February 27th, 2004, our first Juma salah was held at our nearly completed center. This was a day that the community will always remember.

With the facility almost complete; on April 30Th, 2004, speakers came from all over the United States helped us host our Grand Opening Dawah Conference titled “Living our vision in the west”. With nearly 2000 people in attendance we were able to have a series of multiple lectures simultaneously. In addition to the lectures there was a lively Islamic gifts bazaar and food bazaar, organized activities for the youth, and babysitting. We experienced our potential for the first time with the efforts of all who had dedicated their time and money for many years prior to this day seeming to realize. The occasion also reminded the community of the incredible possibilities and opportunities that could be accomplished in the future.

The Islamic Center of Irving is presently a 36,000 square feet facility, and it houses both the school and the Masjid. The school, Islamic School of Irving; which includes Pre-K through grade 8, and will add one grade per year Insha Allah until high school. The Masjid has a large salah area, office and meeting rooms. Our carefully designed and planned playground area is a favorite place to spend time. There is equipment for children of every age group and benches for the parents to relax while watching their children have fun. There is also a basketball area for the youth and there are plans to have a soccer field and a volleyball court in the near future

Upon completion of all the major phases of construction, there were some additional expenses that were incurred. These include: landscaping & irrigation costing $65,000, a security system costing $25,000, a well equipped children’s playground costing $60,000 and carpeting $ 80,000. Your contributions towards covering some of theses costs will be highly appreciated!
